I found this blog to be interesting.. Because it is almost like CatFish lol. I find it funny how now a day’s anyone could be whoever they want to be online. I mean I guess you could have done that a while ago, but it is easier with today's technology. For example the social media sites, it is not like they do background checks if you’re using the right name or location. I can create an account for a celebrity and pretend to be them. It is too easy today to be anything you want on the internet. In my opinion the face to face conversation is lost. Gone are the days you could get to know someone face to face first before dating. Now you could hide behind a computer screen and talk to a million different people at once
Nicolette Mariano 02/14/2014 12:38pm
I definitely see where you are coming from about Twitter. Twitter is a huge phenom that has taken off. What happened to your mother is funny because all she had to do is tweet something badly about the company. Companies now hire people specifically to tweet. I know if you tweet at Taco Bell they will reply in a witty manner. Twitter is a great form of communication I think. Thousands of people could see what you have to say just after a couple of retweets. Social media is so advanced that I am not afraid to admit most of my knowledge about current events comes from them. For example the 2014 Winter Olympics, I follow every news station covering it and I know more about the Olympics from Twitter than watching it on TV.

I completely understand when you say we all have social media identities. I try so hard to make my social media sites a perfect representation of myself. I pick out the cute flower backgrounds and think hard about what I am going to put in my about me's. In today's society you can be two, three, four, completely different people online then you are in real life. All it takes is a click of a button to upload somebody else's picture to your own site. It is kind of scary if you think about it. However, I think a plus of having to maintain your online identity is if you are looking for jobs. Any company has the power to check your Facebook page whenever they want. If they don't like what they see they don't have to hire you, and if you already have the job they could potentially fire you. So the importance of keeping up with your social media identity is important. You want it to represent you to the fullest. If I didn't care what others thought I would put anything on there, however, since I'm still in college and haven't started a career yet I keep my profiles private, and PG.

I can definitely see how you thought the beginning of Berger's video was going to be boring. I too thought the same thing. Watching just him speak was not that interesting. However, after watching a little more and talking about it in class it helped a lot. The part of his video that stood out to me the most was when he talked about Van Gogh's painting of the crows in the fields. He stated that how would you feel if you knew that was his last painting before he killed himself. At first it just looked like a painting of a field with some crows. After I knew that was his last painting before he killed himself I thought of it differently. I then considered why did he paint crows. Crows are a symbol of death. Did he intentionally put them in the painting? A paintings perspective can differ between many different people. It all depends on how you perceive it.

After reading chapter 2 I can see how copyright laws come into play with YouTube. I can literally search movies or TV shows and sometimes full length videos will come up. Often times the people uploading the video won't even cite the real movie or show. I watch YouTube videos probably once or twice a week. So maybe I shouldn't be complaining about copyright laws. A great aspect of social media is how things in real life go viral in seconds. I use this example a lot because I really feel that the internet played an important part. When the Boston Marathon bombings happened I instantly knew about it through Facebook. Videos from the scene went viral in minutes of the bombings. The internet was important because a lot of people at the marathons notified their loved ones that they were okay through social media sites. A simple I am okay status notifies hundreds of people and makes them feel at ease. I think the fact that information is spread so quickly these days is such a convenient aspect of the 21st century.
Nicolette Mariano 03/02/2014 12:50pm
Since I am a Writing Arts major I can absolutely see the importance of copyright laws. Project after project we are supposed to read articles and come up with our own original opinion. It can be hard writing pages of original pieces, and where you're done you feel accomplished. However, we have all been there where we just couldn't write anymore and the easy way out would be to copy and paste. We have all thought about it, but we know it's wrong. Especially in Rowan University there are huge penalties to plagiarism even resulting in getting kicked out of school. So is it really worth it to plagiarize? Probably not. However, patchworking is the idea that you can take bits and pieces from someone else in order to understand it better. I feel that if you do patchwork you should try to understand and then reword the pieces that you took and make it your own.

That was interesting to do considering as a student we have tests all the time where we are supposed to answer questions that we strictly memorize the answer too. Everyone has different ways of remembering things. Sometimes it's easier to see the words right in front of you. Like you said we would remember maybe the shorter words in that compilation. Or words that mean something to us. When I study I try to connect the content to something in my life. That usually helps me remember. Like Jill said as a teacher it is important to help our students remember something. Rather than just looking at words and putting them back on paper we need to help them connect the content to what they are learning.
Nicolette Mariano 03/10/2014 7:54pm
It's definitely interesting to see how many companies try to put hidden messages in their logos. Some people see it and sometimes our subconscious mind doesn't pick up on it. Like anything in this world people will have their own take on things. For example, writing, art, music. Like the quote you stated, pictures can mean something different than they actually are. This also applies for writing and YouTube videos. You can take a stand on pieces of writing or videos songs, and pictures. I now see after doing the YouTube conversations project that you can argue many sides of anything. Like the logos that you put up it's all about how you perceive something.

I have to agree with everyone about your post. I story tell all of the time. Even when I don't realize I am storytelling, I probably am right now. But you are right, as a writer you have to let your imagine run wild. It is good to have your creative juices flowing when you are about to start a project. Sometimes when I write I just like to get everything out. But sometimes getting everything out and letting everyone know your business isn't always a good thing. Ever since social media became more popular people post status's about every little thing they do. This could be bad because people let the world know where they are going to be at what time. Privacy is becoming more out of style.
Nicolette Mariano 04/28/2014 4:20pm
One thing I learned from my film history appreciation class is that no matter how well the actors and actresses are doing in a film, if the story is not good it will not draw the audience in. I feel very strongly about this because one film we watched was considered one of the greatest films of all time. I don't know if it was because of the actual film making like the editing and shots but I thought the story line was plain awful. I didn't understand the story. But that was just my opinion. The great thing about stories is that everyone interprets them differently. I thought that movie was the worst, however someone else could think it was the greatest film they have ever seen

I love the pictures that you posted in your blog because you are right, you never know what you are going to find unless you look hard enough. Every picture, painting, and story has a deeper meaning. I feel that it is all about how you perceive it. Nothing is one dimensional because you can always see it from different angles. If you take the photos some may see just a village with a normal house however, some look deeper into it and see a face.
Nicolette Mariano 04/28/2014 4:42pm
I completely agree with you when you say that every photograph has a different meaning. The pictures you posted all tell a different story. That is what I love about taking pictures. You never truly know the story behind them. Some photos bring joy to people while the same photo can bring sorrow. Take a picture of a loved one sometimes you remember the happy times you have had with them and sometimes you remember the great deal of pain they brought you. This can be from the exact same photo. It is all about how you perceive it and if you know the story behind it.

I have to agree with you along with everyone's comments. The remix culture is alive and happening now. Like Rachel said it is in music, on TV, and the internet. The one APP that I feel like the epitome of remix is Vine. Vine is an application that allows you to record a 6 second video and keeps replaying until you shut it off or keep scrolling. Many people mashup different video clips as well as music into their Vines to make it popular. I love Vine for the fact that people sometimes use old videos and TV shows in their 6 second video. Mashups are awesome because it sheds light to a new and exciting topic that you never thought about before. It gives different sides to stories using images, video, and music.
